  • Welcome to the #magic room HTML help pages.

This page will explain what I consider to be some "Do's and Dont's" of web page design. I'm not saying these are rules that are set in stone, just some observations from the various sites I have visited seeing what works and what doesn't.

FIrst thing that jumps to my mind is color selection for your web page. I can explain this if I give a few "bad" examples first.

The first MAJOR color No-No would have to be mixing blue and red.
    SEE WHAT I MEAN
This is very hard on your eyes
Not many people are going to stay at your site to look at this

I won't go into a long drawn out explanation of why this is so hard to focus on. It has to do with the way the eye receives colors, this is generally why red and blue are the colors that are primarily used in "3-D" pictures.

I also try to avoid the really bright or "neon" colors unless I really want to draw some ones eye to something. These are also colors that are very hard on the eyes due to the brightness of them.

  • Neon Green
  • Neon Yellow
  • Neon Purple
  • Neon Blue

I try to avoid the "Neon Blue" & "Neon Yellow" at all costs, however when used on a darker background(read black) the other two colors are very dramatic and eye catching, and aren't as hard on the eyes as they are on a lighter background.
